Portraits in Pen

The problem I have with haters is that they see my glory, but they don't know my story...
-Maya Angelou

Tell us the story of “She.” Who is she? That woman who inspires, who whispers in your ear, who calms your fears or incites them. Is she inside, a voice on the wind from some moment in the past or a young girl’s thoughts still not yet formed, growing, learning? Do you let her speak or is her voice smothered out by fears or conventions of others, by the larger than life opinions choking out our thoughts that shout their way into our brains from Facebook, News, Magazines and TV?

A Woman’s  heart is in her voice, a gentle  but powerful river bed drawing the world towards her, brimming with life, creating civilizations around her, crafting the landscape and moving the walls that surround her. You can tell her to stop, force her to secede build a dam that stops her flow but she will move the earth around her. She will either nurture the land or drown you but she will not be stopped. Fill her with garbage and she will poison you, fill her with wishes and she will lend you her hope. She will replenish you, nurture you, guide you. Let her be heard. Share her voice. She is your voice, she is my voice, she is your mother’s voice, your daughter’s. She is the blood that beats our heart. Set pen to paper and let her out. Share her, free her, let her be heard.

Portrait in Pen: Paint us a portrait of this woman in words. Share with us her memory, her heart, her story. If a picture is worth a 1000 words, then let your words craft a resplendent portrait.
